bread making

inspired by Sue of the Quince Tree there has been some occasional bread making going on. (I adapted Sue's recipe, she uses 4 tins and I only have 3, and there was no wholemeal flour in the house...)
As I am not a regular bread maker I tend to forget about the various stages and timings, and only remember when a small person wanders by and says "I'm hungry, is it ready yet?" or as in the case of the bread above "look mummy, it's HUGE". ooops.

pretty it isn't, I haven't mastered how to make a tidy looking loaf, but it doesn't last long so I guess that means it tastes ok. now if I could just find a decent gluten free recipe.........

  1. I swear I can smell this. Thanks for the link, I like the idea of 4 loaves at a time and the fact you don't have to put it somewhere warm necessarily.

  4. Your bread look wonderful, it's so satisfying to eat your own bread. I make bread everyday but it's made in a breadmaker. (I use to make it by hand.) I only use wholemeal flour (unless I'm making raisin bread) and add seeds like linseed, sunflower seeds and pepitas. It's quite delicious and beats any shop bought bread.
    Enjoy!!

  8. Gluten free bread is quite difficult - although our breadmaker has a special program for certain sorts of gluten free flour. I don't know if you can tolerate rye, but we make a rye bread, which comes out much flatter - it is very tasty though.

  10. Ooh,yum! The smell of baking bread brings backs lots of memories for me as my great grandparents were bakers.
I don't bake anywhere near enough, so I'm going to make a plan to do so again soon.
Thank you for the inspiration...& for the memories. Hope you enjoyed every mouthful!

  13. I've been doing this - your bowl is much better than mine. I don't have one big enough so I have to use a garden bucket.

    It is clean.
