flat as a pancake...

last night I tried to make Alice's buttermilk scones....

they looked more like buttermilk pancakes, but warm from the oven with lots of butter and jam they tasted ok - this morning, cold - not so good, the birds might be getting the rest......

Also baffling me is this pattern, from living creatively, now I'm no dressmaker but it seems to me that the 2nd net tier at the bottom of the petticoat needs to be longer than the rest of the petticoat, or else you can't gather it up, to create the fullness in the pictures. but the instructions are to cut the same length...... well I'm going to make the 1st layer shorter and we'll see what happens.... any advise would be much appreciated!!!!!!! xx

it might end up on the bird table with the scones...

which would be a shame because I really like the fabric...... and if I can't finish it, then I'm down a present.......

  1. Hi Tess,
Not really sure about the answer here - looks like we are both struggling with vague sewing instructions. Just catching up with your doings. I love the craft party - what fun and what lovely things you were left with. Those dragonflies are superb and the bendy worm so cute.
Hope you manage to figure out the petticoat. I'll post my pattern for the handwarmers this weekend in case you or anyone else are interested.
    Have a great weekend.

  3. I hate the days when things don't seem to make sense and cooking doesn't go to plan. Good luck with figuring out the pattern.

  4. Oh dear!! I feel crushed by the responsibility. I have not had any problem with this recipe but scones are notoriously fickle. At least the birds had a good day.

  5. My, those are going to be some well-fed, well-dressed (or well-nested?) birds! >;-D Good luck with it all, and resort to some chocolate therapy if you need to do so (NOW look who's being predictable in comment boxes!).

  6. Lovely fabric, don't you just hate unclear sewing instructions, they are enough to make you pull your hair out!
Hope you can get it figured out.

  7. oooh! I was going to make that apron. Your fabric is blimmin LOVELY and I love dots, but i'm thinking the flowers are nicer ... I will endeavour to look at the pattern to see if I can decipher it but I expect that by now you have a few answers! x

  9. Love the fabric! I really hate patterns that are unclear! The only thing I can think of is that you'll hem up the fabric piece but the netting is left unhemmed.

Thanks for your kind words on the loss of my Grandpa. He really was a special.

  13. I wish I could offer some sage advice but alas my machine knows more than I do and we often fail to speak the same lanaguage. Love the fabric too so hope the birds don't get a fancy new table cloth.
