green

All of a sudden everywhere is green.

New lavender shoots.

Delicate cow parsley fronds.

The heavenly fragrance of lemon balm.

Vibrant parsley.

Silvery green thyme.

Purple tinged green fennel.

Lush dark kale.

Alien like rhubarb emerging wrinkled from tight buds.

 Fresh green mint.

If I had to think of a colour to describe Spring it would be green x

green

rain is lashing down outside and the garden is drinking it up.

as the plants become wetter and wetter the air is filled with scent.

not a heady floral, or a woody overtone, but more of a colour.

green.
it smells green.
chlorophyll.
oxygen.

fresh and minty.

purple sensation in the cherry orchard

I love Alliums.

The confidence of the balls of colour popping out like fireworks from the undergrowth never fails to make me smile.

I'm not very good at growing them though, which is why I am impossibly happy to see them newly underplanted in the cherry orchard of the Alnwick Garden.

50,000 of them!

white

frothy white clouds

soft white tinted with the faintest hint of pink

white tutus balancing on long legs

petals opening into the sunlight

tiny white splashes in a sea of green

blossom perfection

petals that resemble little stick people, round body, large head, long arms, short legs.

fireworks of white shooting up into the sky.

I wander round the sea of white and wonder why we need any other colours at all.

white

the sun comes out and for a few hours we have blue skies

we go in search of blossom

but it is almost impossible to photograph

the wind catches the petals and blows them about

in the end I have to to hold the blooms still.

and it reminds me that we need to remember to be still,
to stop and pay attention to the world around us,
because so often it is rushing past,
 like the wind.

blue

First day of the Easter holidays.
Miss K has gone on a trip with Guides.
There will be trains, and canal trips, the European parliament and most importantly chocolate.

Guides wear blue even out of uniform when on trips.
We had to buy blue trousers, and then a belt to hold them up!

She rebelliously packed pink pyjamas.

Meanwhile feeling blue is one of the kitties. He got stung (we think) on his leg and licked all his fur off, and made the skin oh so sore. Antibiotics and steroid cream seem to be helping but until it's all healed he has to wear a cone of shame. Oh you have never seen such a miserable thing, he keeps reversing trying to get out of it, or climbing upwards as it that will help. we are constantly having to rescue him when he gets stuck........ I haven't taken a photo, it seemed cruel.........

purple

purple is what happens to your kitchen when you defrost the freezer and find a mixture of berries leftover from last summer....

and purple is the sweet sweet smell of berries bubbling away.

and purple is the sight of jars of thick syrupy jelly waiting to be splodged onto scones.....

purple is also the jewelled centres of portable crumble, inspired by Emma. thanks Emma it's delicious x

and out in the garden, purple is amongst the tinge of grey in these thistles

and in the clematis creeping over from next door's garden

borrowed purple is just as beautiful xxx
