winter wonderland

we drove home yesterday from visiting relatives for New Year.
we survived blizzard conditions, drifting snow, and risk of road closures.
all was well in fact until we were within a mile from home.
which is up a VERY steep hill.
which had a lot of snow on it...............
the back end of the car slid out,
the front wheels of the car spun round and round
we swapped drivers and J pushed
more wheel spinning
we went backwards and tried again and got stuck in a different place
we left the car and carried our bags up the hill
J managed to get the car to a safer place later, out of the way of anyone coming down out of control...........

when we made it to the top it was clear from the road that no-one else had been up or down all day.........

and the arrival of the snow plough this afternoon created much excitement

but nothing could distract from the serious task of igloo building.
it's very cosy in there, if a little cramped due to the lamp post in the middle!

  1. That's amazing - well not the car trouble, but the igloo and all that snow. Wish we had some to be proud of!!

Have a lovely rest of the weekend,

  2. wow!!! I have massive snow envy. Not.even.one.flake! Rubbish.
Love the fabulous sky lanterns, bought them for all of the men in my life for Christmas and have since ordered loads more because they have been so popular.
Enjoy all of that fabulous snow, and have a very Happy New Year lovely lady

  3. It is so lovely to look at as long as you don't have to get through it! Like the igloo, any photos of inside?

  4. How fantastic! I did my own bit of snow driving the other day, which was scary but nothing so serious as that.

I do quite fancy your igloo though.

  5. Now that's what I call snow! I remember having to abandon my car a few years ago (I live up a steep hill too) and was dreading going back to collect it in case it had been bashed about (it hadn't, thank goodness).
Happy New Year to you all!

  7. Igloo building sounds like fun! It is going to be 39 deg C here today - we could use some of that snow to cool off:)

Best wishes for an extra special 2010.

  11. Well, it looks pretty anyway. Ours has grass sticking out of it and is accompanied by goddawfully alarming temperatures...

Hope you're staying cozy and that the car has returned home safely. If not, perhaps it needs its own igloo... xoxo

  12. And I thought all the serious snow was in the far south....
Glad you made it back in one piece, and that igloo is officially a work of art!

We can come to HEAPS of snow... 28 inches/70 cm and -17 C...bbbrrr... It's pretty, but sooo cold! LOL! Wishing you & yours all the very best of love, peace & joy in 2010! :o) ((HUGS))

  15. Oh blimey that soudns hairy! Thanks for your messgae, Woody did finally make it home from town on Saturday. Luckily we're only a few miles away and he harbours a few Ray Mears ambitions so was fine.

We're still snowed in here, how about you? Stay cosy, more on the way I think.

  16. What lovely snow. I am just glad that it is there and not here! My goodness you really are getting more than your fair share this year. We on the other hand are getting dreary drizzly rain. That's ok though as we don't have to shovel rain!
