this morning

this morning

I haven't loaded the photos from my camera so this post can have nice pictures and I can see a record of what I haven't photographed this week.

Even if I had then I still haven't got any pictures of the lovely river walk I took earlier this week where the wild flowers were aplenty, the bees were buzzy and the cows were very understanding of the fact that we were in their field instead of on the path.... too busy chatting......(us not the cows.)

I didn't photograph the slug eaten courgette plants - every last scrap eaten, or the very sad nest of dead blue tit babies in the bird box, we noticed the parents had stopped visiting, so after a few more days we checked to find a they'd all died.....

Instead I've been making signs and banners for an "end of exams" party, one more week to go,
oh these GCSE's - they go on Forever.

I've been buying appropriately grown up and sophisticated accessories for the said party -
balloons, streamers, party poppers, bubble wands, lots and lots of sweets, and ice cream!

I've also bought gaiters, and a bright orange survival bag for a Duke of Edinburgh practise expedition for E and a phone case for Miss K. The case is waterproof, sand proof and built to military standards. Not because it's going anywhere exciting or dangerous, she's just impossibly clumsy............

right now, I have to go to a physics exam now, just as well I'm not taking any of these papers, I looked at a boys paper the other morning and thought he'd written that "coffee is stronger than aluminium". It seemed a perfectly reasonable answer to me, but apparently the question was about copper..........

hope you have a lovely weekend. I'm going out to try and buy some more courgette plants..........

  1. What a lovely way to celebrate the end of exams - you're right; they do seem to go on forever. So sad about the baby blue tits; I wonder what happened. Hope the weather picks up a bit for the D of E expedition - it's pouring down here at the moment and there's nothing worse than being soaking wet with miles to go. Here's to a better weekend. xx

    1. it's next weekend so I'm hopeful for a good forecast......I think it's hard enough for them without wet!

  2. I have weeks like that...... I must admit to not understanding my boys exam papers or home work -my best approach is to nod sympathetically, point them in the direction of husband while I put the kettle on. Had they chosen English, art or history subjects - now that is a different matter! Good luck with the courgettes :)

  3. Well even if there are no photos it all sounds very interesting.

  4. Photo's are vastly over rated if you ask me, it's words that matter. We don't expect photos in most of the books we read because authors aren't photographers, and neither are most bloggers. You wove your tail of highs and lows more than skillfully enough for everything you describe to be visible to the reader.

No cake at the party? You can't have a party without cake!!

  5. Your word pictures perfectly described the images, no photos needed. So sad about the baby birds :( happened to us a few years ago with a robin's nest in our shed. We found five dead robins in their nest one day with no explanation. Nature can be so cruel.

I submitted to chemical means to keep the slugs off my veg this year. Just had enough of them all being eaten. It was that or stop trying to grow anything altogether.

    1. I fear I may have to resort to chemical means too. the egg shells offered no protection at all....

  6. Love the sound of the phone case built to military standards! E is similarly clumsy and I fear the phone will not survive a music festival with camping! Tragic about the baby blue tits. We once felled a tree to keep annoying neighbours happy and down came a nest of baby pigeons, I've felt guilty ever since! X

  8. Oh dear, so sad about the blue tits, spring can be such a harsh time when it comes to wildlife can't it. A shame about the courgette plants as well. I hope the rest of the exams go well and that the expedition and party are lots of fun. Have a good weekend Tess, CJ xx

  9. There's plenty to think about here even without pictures. I think that sounds like a perfectly sophisticated soiree. I'll be right over. :)

  11. The party sounds like a perfect celebration of the end. So sad about your blue tits and courgettes. I've just given in and put some slug pellets down, they were happily partying all over my egg shells all night, every night!

  12. Across-the-road neighbour finished his GCSEs yesterday. Saw him looking pale and shell-shocked walking down the road earlier- don't think he has seen the light of day for weeks...
Hope the party is wild and loud and outside.

  13. The phone case made me laugh. Amy went to Blackpool pleasure beach and took her phone on one of the water rides. She dumped it in a canvas bag in a puddle of water on the ride and couldn't understand why it wouldn't work afterwards. Hope the party goes well and that E enjoys his Duke of Edinburgh experience. How sad about the baby birdies. xx

  14. Looking on the bright side you won't have to make the Driftwood Family eat courgette cake this year.

  15. I got a similar case for my daughter - she broke it! (and I have the same case which is lasting fine for me - so it was definitely her and not the case!) - hope yours lasts longer. Sometimes it's good to just have words to concentrate on, and your words are always lovely. The party sounds like it will be great - I hope the exams have gone well.

  16. Oh how sad about your little bird's nest. I wonder what scared off the parents? And I feel your courgette pain -- a bunny ate my first set of tomato plants (never had that problem before) so my second set has a little fence around it. And Alie C's comment made me laugh!

  18. why is it that this time of year is as busy as Christmas? I just don't get it.

(thinking of doing the midnight walk next year... in London... but maybe just half... do-able?)
