five truly rubbish excuses why I've not posted for 18 days.
- I was decorating banister rails; sanding, undercoating, glossing, swearing when the gloss had drips in, and more swearing when the masking tape that was protecting the carpet pulls off a layer of gloss paint from the base of the railings.....
- urmm.... no nothing, no more excuses, well I suppose I did go and choose some paint samples for the walls, at the moment it's a toss up between chalk white and sail white. no-one except me can tell the difference between the samples I painted on the walls, and someone else said they liked the colour the wall already was better than the new choices........... I am wondering why I thought it was a good idea to decorate the hall at all.........
- I've finally managed to buy E a pair of school trousers that are long enough, he's only been back 2 weeks, so it's not that bad surely.... and I did have to drive 20 miles to collect them, and sit in the store's cafe drinking tea until I got a cheerful email telling me my order was ready to collect.
- I baked the nicest blackberry crumble in the whole world and then ate so much that I couldn't move from the sofa for hours.
- I was abducted by aliens and therefore couldn't take any decent photos or doing anything that might actually be worth writing about? this is as good as excuse as any in reality............
Made me smile. The blackberries really have been good this year haven't they? I have stashed loads away in the freezer and made jam for a taste of summer in the cooler months.
ReplyDeleteI need to get more stashed in the freezer, today's challenge I think. x
DeleteYou're too funny! That item #1 is excuse enough -- painting is NO fun when you're having trouble. My weekend project is to paint a wall that we had repaired. It won't take long -- the problem is finding where I stashed the paint the last time I used it. Tell the aliens to let you go -- we need another post -- SOON!!!
ReplyDeleteWell I would give you an A for imagination!! Well done!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely A for creativity! You put me to shame - I've been trying to muster the willpower to decorate for months but have managed to resist so far. Maybe I'll just make a crumble instead! xx
ReplyDeletedon't do it. I am seriously wondering why I started. E got gloss paint on this school uniform........
DeleteNo real need for excuses, just join us when you can.
ReplyDeletethank you x
DeleteYou made me giggle. We are replacing our whole stair case next year so no doubt I will have gloss drips then. My blackberries are in the freezer I really want a crumble now though x
ReplyDeleteI have been having very similar thoughts about my blog , I haven't posted for a couple of weeks either, just terribly busy, not even the excuse of redecorating. X
ReplyDeleteLife is too short to worry about the time between blog posts! I am certain I could tell the difference between sail white and chalk white (hope that's not too sad). I am not going to do any painting until all the offspring have moved out! Say hello to the aliens next time you meet them. x
ReplyDeleteHahaha Sounds like my life! SO much to do - don't worry :) The aliens are an excellent reason to have been 'busy'!
ReplyDeleteso much to do, so little control over the aliens....... x
Deletehahahahaaa, this made me laugh out loud. If I were your teacher, I would send you to the corner of the room with a dunce hat!!! Ooops, sorry that's not PC ;) So very funny, good post x
ReplyDeletehappy it made you smile. I'm sure my teacher did do that to me once.......
DeleteYep, sometimes life demands our time away from our blogs. I can empathize with the masking tape and gloss paint - -arggghhh! Your crumble sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteCaz xx
the crumble did make up for the paint disaster just a little bit x
DeleteHmmm...those sound like solid reasons to me. Good work. x
ReplyDeleteBlackberries in Cambridgeshire have been pants. Off to try and find some more tomorrow as I am desperate for bramble jelly. I am glad you stuffed yourself with crumile. Makes me feel bettr about my lunch today...
ReplyDeleteAx
I don't know, they all sound like very good reasons to me. It's nice to have you back in any case. :)
ReplyDeleteOh dear, it sounds like a very trying time! Such a shame that you didn't get to photograph the aliens that got you, that would have made for a very good blog post!!!! Hee hee!!! I hope that the decorating goes well, I don't get the thing with all those different whites either, they all look the same to me too!! Thank you for joining Five on Friday. I hope that you have a great weekend!!! Sorry to be late visiting, we have been away and just got back today. xx
ReplyDeleteDecorating the hall is one of the fiddliest things isn't it. I would get the same enthusiastic response as well no doubt. Well done on the trousers, they're always tricky to get right aren't they. Wishing you a good weekend. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteI have missed you. I think all of your reasons for being gone are very creditable. Me? Just trying to find the small thread that used to be my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteIt has rained here..Glory and pass the ammunition..cool enough for the wood burner in the morning..so good. Wishing you a wondrous weekend. xo
I think all of your excuses are perfectly legitimate. Painting a house yourself would drive nearly anyone bonkers and tea and cake are always the perfect excuse to stop doing anything really. As for the aliens...well there's not much you can do when they swoop down. :)
ReplyDeletex Susan
So glad you're back!! xxx
ReplyDeletethank you Isabelle x
Deleteyes for the blackberry crumble, no to alien abduction! this makes me feel a little better. I have been out of the loop with the blogging too! xx
ReplyDeleteNo comment from me. 18 days is not a long time. It's just lovely to see you back after a break for real life!!
ReplyDeleteIt's just so hard to get the time to do anything to blog about and then blog about as well as reading/commenting on other blogs!
ReplyDeleteyes, I'd been reading but not doing x
DeleteDefinitely an 'A' for creativity, and much more entertaining reading than the usual life/not enough hours in the day excuses that I feel I'm forever giving. Theo had the best real excuse I know of at school one time, it was a couple of years ago now but it was one of those moments that the teacher and his friends will remember for years and he frequently gets reminded of it still. He'd somehow managed to drop a sheet of paper with his homework on into the hedge next to where we park, and we didn't realise for a couple of days. Unfortunately in that time several slugs and snails had feasted on it, particularly around the edges, and had left slimy trails over it too, it was really in an impressively poor state when we found it. So he handed it in (still on time at least!) and said 'Sorry Mr N, the slugs ate my homework!'. His teacher was a very good teacher, who had a sense of humour and he held it up for all the class to see, and asked Theo to explain to everyone, apparently several of the boys were practically wetting themselves, it was obviously just the thing to appeal to 11 year old boys' senses of humour! And please can I have more details on the crumble - did you make it with just blackberries for the fruit? And if so do you cook them first?
ReplyDeleteTime just goes far too quickly doesn't it. I chose moonlight white for our lounge and I know Mark and the decorator thought I was mad when I said there was a difference between that and what was already on the walls, but I could see there was. xx
ReplyDeletemoonlight white sounds gorgeous. I'm having doubts again, maybe I'll just use the antique cream I painted the lounge in........
DeleteCould you ask the aliens if they'll come and make me an apple and blackberry crumble next time please? My pies and crumbles are not going well this year! X
ReplyDeleteSome days/weeks I don't know where the time goes. Hope you got the gloss off the school uniform! Welcome back anyway :) x
ReplyDeleteI bought Alf new school trousers in September. He has grow 3inches un the time (I kid you not), so off to m&s I must go sometime this week. He is having actual growing pains, and a lot of cross hormones too.
ReplyDeleteLeanne xx
growing pains don't sound fun, nor do cross hormones. it must be hard to be a boy... E has stretch marks on his back from growing so fast...........
