blue shirt quilt

anyone remember this?

well some of them were looking a little worse for wear.

and so have become this.

hopefully it will be just the thing for E who is missing his grandad terribly, as time passes it seems to be getting worse not better, he misses grandad's hugs the most he says, so perhaps this will help.....

I just need to baste and quilt it now. which might take a while as he's requested footballs all over it.
note to self "do not ask for quilting inspiration from 10 year old boys"..........

  1. Ha! Footballs! Love those design ideas that children come up with - often madder than mad. Beautiful, soothing quilt though - I am sure with or without footballs it will be much loved by E.

  6. That is lovely. I've been cutting up old shirts with a similar intention but mine won't have such touching associations. And I love that it's just shades of blue - I have a LOT of blue shirt material.

  9. Beautiful quilt! I love all the cool blues, it works so well. Old shirt fabrics are lovely to sew as they are so soft, aren't they? And sweet of E to suggest footballs..It will be a lovely quilt to snuggle under. Helen x

  23. Just beautiful, as always! There is a lovely, gentle book called Tear Soup which is really helpful for young and old facing the loss of a loved one. I think amazon have it although one of my friends from the US sent it to me when my mum died.
I, too, am collecting old shirts but it will be a while before I have enough for a quilt I think but so good to see what you have done.
