holiday round up

Thank you for all the lovely comments on Friday's post, feeling much more like myself now.
Last night's mojitos might have helped.
So how about a speedy round up of the hols? With a truly random selection of pics.

We had a truly wonderful trip. It was Very Hot at times.
It was quite an effort to not end up looking like a boiled lobster.
This one was very tasty btw. E liked it too. Miss K pronounced it too spiky to eat.

E discovered a passion for donuts. We did find some gluten free donuts in Trader Joes, they were quite tasty, but not very photogenic......

This is Jackson,  New Hampshire. Very Pretty. Natural pools of water for paddling and splashing. Water is a bit theme throughout the trip. I think my family might be partly aquatic, they sought out water wherever we went. Also in the area a mountain side thrills park. Water slides, giant airbags to jump onto, cable car rides, mountain coasters. Thrill seeking children Loved it.... I watched mostly....

Rockport, MA. Frequently used as a film set, most recently "The Proposal" with Sandra Bullock, where it pretends to be a town in Alaska. I've never been to Alaska but I doubt it is quite that hot there. Or as picture book pretty.
We lived there nearly 20 years ago, it's barely changed, and I still love it just as much.
It was liked going on holiday and coming home, all at the same time.

The Lincoln Memorial, Washington DC. The Mall in Washington is filled with monuments and statues and sculptures and water features. Truly Beautiful. Especially at night.  Also along the Mall more museums than you could ever hope to visit in a lifetime. We saw the biggest diamond ever, touched a piece of the moon, read the fading lettering of the Declaration of Independence, wanted to read all the books at Thomas Jefferson's library, learnt about  evolution, and how toilets work in space, sat in the Botanic gardens, and dipped our toes in fountains and pools, collected tiny pieces of driftwood from the river banks, and walked 1 1/2 miles of the 17 miles of corridors in the Pentagon, and went to the zoo.

Back to reality now, I need to email one of  Miss K's teachers and tell him I've put the letters about next terms text books, and syllabus in a safe place, (probably the recycling.........) and please will he email me another copy of them.
I remember her handing them to me, who knows what happened to them after that............
we saw a t-shirt on holiday that said "nothing is truly lost until your mother can't find it"
perhaps it should say on the back, "unless it's her fault it's lost"

  1. I have put all SmallBean's birthday thank yous somewhere safe, ie lost them.He is not impressed as I made him write at least two sentences to everyone and he had a lot of friends to his party. I have emailed all the mothers to say it is my fault.

Your hols look fabulous, no wonder you were in need of happy cake... Ax

  3. How did I miss that you were in the US? Maybe you didn't say where you were going before. I went to college in Massachusetts and spent some time around the coast. I loved Rockport, it was a very pretty area. That lobster, wow. Sorry, "lobstah"; I forgot how to say it properly. :)

  5. I need that t-shirt for my offspring! When I was in labour (it was a long one) I put all the instructions for the pram/car seat/sterilizer in a safe place so I could read them and they never ever reappeared...

  7. What a fabulous trip. Lovely photos. We are hoping to travel to the US next year for a long summer trip - Rockport is on my list. I've tidied important papers away several times and lost them... Although I am usually the 'finder of things' in this house.

  8. Oh wow! What a holiday! No wonder you were a bit 'outside yourself' when you came home! Rockport looks so very beautiful, that gorgeous clear water. Have never eaten lobster, but one of my very earliest memories is of my dad putting several large lobsters in a huge pot of boiling water and clapping the lid on. The seeing a big pincer lifting the lid. X

  10. What a wonderful trip, and such lovely photos capturing both the place and an atmosphere of what it must have been like. So glad you enjoyed it, especially revisiting somewhere you used to live. The lost papers will probably turn up once you get the copies...at least that's the kind of thing that happens to me!

  12. That area of the U.S. is somewhere I have always wanted to visit. We were going to go there for one of my 'big' birthdays but then my husband found out that he was going to be made redundant so it never happened. I will go one day, maybe my next 'big' birthday (gives me saving up time).
I once put some keys in the peg bag to keep them safe when we were away. I couldn't remember where I had put them when we got home. I found them during the post holiday washing!

  14. Your holiday looks gorgeous, love the water ones particularly, what a beautiful place to visit, and sounds perfect for getting on a bit teens. I'm forever losing school stuff, I can't even try and blame the children any more, the teachers all know it's me by now! Happily more and more paperwork does come out by e-mail though, so much easier to avoid losing that.

  15. What a joyous trip. I did not know that you were in the States. You have been places I have never been to!
Perhaps you could wing a prayer to Anthony, the patron saint of lost things. I seem to be misplacing things more and more...perhaps it indicates a missing brain. Ha!

  16. Just waving and saying hi ... a bout of insomnia has me putting my mid-night time to good effect and catching up with all the blog posts I missed during my enforced time offline.

The water in that quarry looked amazing. As does that lobster. Huzzah for holidays!

  17. What a wonderful holiday/return home!!!! I used to live in the US and it feels a bit like a combination of holiday/home to me too! Rockport looks like a wonderful place to visit or to have lived. Years ago I walked along the Mall in Washington and marvelled at all the monuments, it is an amazing place isn't it! So glad you had such a great time!!!! xx

  18. What a brilliant trip! That lobster looks delicious. It's always good to go back to somewhere you know but relive it in a different time. I'm sure the papers will turn up - we're yet to tackle BigRs summer 'homework' - infact I'm not sure where the instructions are....!! xx
