September so far

Sepember so far. I have a new part time job at a local farm where they produce beautiful yarn from their goats and sheep The sheep like to keep an eye on me to make sure I am doing everything properly. "No sheep, I never make your yarn into terrible tangles........ of course not........"

The yarn dances around on these swifts looking like a circus field of carousels, and is measured onto the winder where it becomes lovely soft and squishy skeins. So soft. Such wonderful colours. I must learn to knit better so I can actually use some of it.....

The children are back at school. It is Miss K's last year. How is that possible? It was surely only a few weeks ago that were buying her first ever school shoes... Now we are overwhelmed with UCAS applications or apprenticeships or ??? E has to start thinking about A level choices or college applications or ???

Faced with the responsibility of such impossible parenting we did the only thing possible.
Sent them to stay with friends for the weekend and ran away.....

  4. It's a tried and tested technique in our household. We don't call it running away, we call it distancing ourselves in order to form a balanced perspective. Gin helps too. J x a job with yarn! Heaven.

  5. The new yarn job sounds fabulous, and what a great view. I know what you mean about wondering where on earth the time has gone. The thought of the exams and things that lie ahead terrifies me. I don't know if I'm up to it. Hope you had a lovely relaxing weekend. CJ xx

  8. You're a year ahead of us in schooling (yrs 12, 10 and 8 here), so we'll be facing this very situation next year. Good luck with it all. I might follow your lead and escape for a while! Hope you had a wonderful break. And your new job sounds ideal :-) Sam x

  9. I love the sound of your new job! Love your approach to parenting, a relaxed and happy parent is a good parent. Sam is doing Higher's (your A levels) this year but will be staying on for another year after so no big rush with decisions. Love the Scottish education system for that, less pressure on the youngsters. Have a fun week. x

  10. The yarn looks gorgeous, what a wonderful place to work. Hope you enjoyed your weekend away but good luck with the parenting now you're back! That's the thing with being a parent I find, no one else is behind you to do it when you've had enough or don't fancy a particular job which needs doing! Our oldest will be going through the A level choice thing this year too, but parenting him is a breeze compared to his brother who's a year younger and a huge worry at the moment. It is so much easier when they're tiddly!

  12. A job with yarn and sheep, I would be envious but the temptation to spend would be huge, so I hope you are strong willed!
My girl hated her return to school and we have had several very stressful weeks when we have tried to get to a route where she feels happier. We're just about there and when she's settled I'll be more than ready for a break.... It just doesn't get easier as they get older (unless you're very lucky).

  13. Oh deep envy - working with wool and woolly creatures - talk about extreme jealously - enjoy it!! We've had quite a metamorphosis with our two - one starting A levels and the other - Uni. All change ...

  16. Sorry you have had a major photo loss as I love seeing your entry in Hawthorns' Photo Hunt. She lost hers some years ago and surprisingly found them backed up in Picasa.

  18. That new job sounds lovely! We have sheep behind the house - they stare at me when I'm putting my makeup on by the bathroom window. It's quite unnerving.
