February already?

Apparently it's February already. I'm not quite sure how that happened.

January got swallowed up with extended visits to my parents, my dad has broken his hip, my mum's Alzheimer's is getting worse.....

On the plus side the lost cable sock was found and I finished it's friend so I have lovely warm toes

I also knitted these lovely variegated socks in Hermione's everyday sock pattern from ravelry. So lovely to knit. So cross that I snapped my knit pro circular needle about ten minutes after finishing them. But at least it was after..............

I also finished the daisy cowl for when I want to wear a cloud of fluff.
Sometimes we need to wear clouds of fluff, it's kind of like pretending to be a unicorn.

Yesterday the sun came out for the first time in weeks.
I spent several hours battling with the mud in the garden and was rewarded with these snowdrops.

They have a fine delicate perfume and such intricate details.
Calming and restorative.
Just what I need right now.

  1. Wow, your socks are gorgeous. I have the Hermione's Everyday sock pattern printed off and ready to go but I have another couple of pairs to do first. I noticed our first snowdrops this morning as I was feeding the birds. They really lift the spirits don't they. Enjoy your weekend. xx

  2. I'm so sorry to hear this, Tess; coping with a parent's decline can be hugely challenging. I do hope your dad is ok and on the mend asap and I hope you are able to have some good times with your mum. Your socks look fabulous and warm, and how lovely to have snowdrops blooming. Ours are just starting to unfurl here. Sending lots of good thoughts your way. Take care, Sam x

    1. thank you Sam, I thought long and hard whether or not to talk about it, but it's a big part of what's happening right now, and it was talk about it, or just not blog at all.... hope you enjoy your snowdrops when they come out x

  3. Sending hugs, sometimes a moment away in the garden is wonderfully restorative even more so when sweetly scented snowdrops are there. I've just come in from the garden to make lunch, and between the sad twigs and rotting leaves I've been taking to the compost, small snowdrops have appeared promising that spring is on her way xx hope things are improving x

  4. I'm sorry to read about your parents. It can't be easy for any of you.
Your socks look fabulous. Both of the patterns together with such gorgeous yarn make them look doubly cosy. You are so talented. I'm still trying to perfect a basic sock. What a shame your needle snapped.
Some snowdrop have appeared around here too. A very welcome sight. X

the socks are lovely (and the Hermione's pattern is Very forgiving, much better for hiding little mistakes than a basic sock :)) I'm going to order a new needle soon, knitting is a wonderful distraction x

  5. So sorry to hear that your dad has broken his hip, I do hope it is on the mend soon. Sorry that your mum is declining as well, it must be very hard for you all.

Well done on all the knitting, I'm very impressed. Handknit socks are one of life's delights. Gorgeous snowdrops. It seems such a shame that they're so low to the ground all that beauty can be missed.

Have a good Sunday Tess. CJ xx

  6. Oh how we all want to reach a good age...often forgetting the ageing process, and how it impacts our lives. I hope your Father makes a good recovery. Life can be so cruel and Alzheimer's certainly is for the afflicted and their families. Sending big hugs with a small amount of sock envy. My one pair of lovely hand knitted ones I made went in on a wrong wash and felted. x

  10. Yes, I'd like to be a unicorn sometimes. Fluff is good for the soul. Any kind except the fluff the collects under your sofa/bed or wherever. Love your cable sock. I am wearing a similar pair just now. Hope February is kinder to you. Wishing you all the best. x

  11. Yes indeed -- January whizzed past and here we are in February. You're a funny girl -- I laughed at your unicorn comment and now I'm thinking I need to come up with my own pile of fluff. LOVE those cable socks -- just beautiful!

  14. I'm sorry to hear about your parents, Tess. My grandfather died this morning. Not unexpected and he was 92, but still sad about it. I love your socks and your flower is lovely. I can almost smell it from here. Hugs to you, take care.

  16. Sorry to hear your Dad has broken his hip and about your Mum's Alzheimers. It can be hard for everybody involved especially if decisions have to be made. I've just been sent a pattern for socks using 2 needles so I'm going to give them a go. I've never knitted socks before, I've always been put off my so many needles. Hoping they turn out as nice as yours. xx
