today is "prepare to take next year by storm day"
the weather is responding with yet another storm.
the cats are too frightened by the wind to go outside.
my preparing seems to be mostly drinking cups of tea and looking in despair at the mess in the study, where everything has been dumped for the last 2 weeks, in a "quick fling it in there and shut the door" style.....
I'm not mentally ready for next year anyway, unless I can plan to hibernate, which probably wouldn't be popular with the family by dinner time......
Instead I shall content myself with reflecting on Christmas, the children don't like to be photographed, so here's a cat with his new catnip fish,.
We took advantage of a brief respite from the rain and went to the beach yesterday, where I contented myself with playing with sticks and bits of Christmas tree which had been washed up the the crazy high tides, and E and J flew the Christmas kites and E began his new "career" as teenage film director. If only he was as enthusiastic about revising for his exams he has in January as he is about learning to use film editing software...........
Tomorrow we're going for a day trip to Cumbria to check on my mother in law, she's now got a flat to live in whilst her house dries out after the floods, and we need to make sure that the dryers are doing their best, and that the house is secure after the latest storms. I'm not sure I'll be back in time to write a happy new year post, or write a wonderful thoughtful reflective post about 2015 (ok I'll be honest, I'm not ever going to try and write one of those!) or make a gorgeous photographic mosaic (no - not going to do that either!) so instead this;
I wish you all the very best for a wonderful New Year, may 2016 bring you happy times, friendship, love, joy, good health, and cake.
I also want to thank you for all your friendship, visits, comments, emails, and posts to read this year. You make me a better person and for that I thank you.
now if you need me I'll either be trying to convince someone that learning about antibiotics and friction and chemical reactions really is worthwhile, or I'll be in a cave of duvets and quilts.
The cave sounds just right to me. I love the idea of bits of Christmas tree washing up on the beach. I wonder where they came from? I hope the storm isn't too bad. We've had some serious winds here lately too. I feel a lot like your cat when it's very windy.
ReplyDeleteI think I need to disappear into a cave as well. A stormy day indeed. I'm wishing you a very happy 2016. CJ xx
ReplyDeleteCave of pillows and duvets sounds perfect to me too! Hope everything is drying out and drive carefully the wind is really buffeting.Had an 'interesting' drive to work today and was glad when I got home and put the car away. Here's to 2016 xxx
ReplyDeletewe're not going if the wind hasn't calmed down..... glad you got home safe xxx
DeleteGo for the cave. Tomorrow is early enough for studying. I hope your mother in laws house has not been further affected by the new storm. It is pretty bad here today but not nearly as bad as in Cumbria. Happy New Year when it comes. x
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a 'take next year by storm' day, but the light is too dark, or the bed is too warm, or I want to make a pile of chocolate biscotti instead.... perhaps I'll take 2017 by storm instead.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your Mum is getting sorted. I hope Frank is kinder than Desmond.
Wow -- the beach during the holidays -- I can't even imagine! I haven't even begun to think about next year (well, except to be excited about the new baby that will arrive this summer) -- must take time to sit and reflect and make plans -- Thank you, as always for the inspiration!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope that next year brings you great things. xx
ReplyDeleteYour studio sounds as if it looks like mine. Instead of girding up my loins to go and tidy up, I'm sitting by the fire blogging and eating the bread I baked this morning.
ReplyDeleteI hope the winds die down and you can make your trip to Cumbria. Happy New Year!
I do hope Storm Frank is not as bad as forecast. It would be terrible if people were flooded again. We have gone away for New Year and have put up flood defences just in case......
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you and yours :)
I hope your flood defences keep you safe and that you have a lovely time away xxx
DeleteHmm, your study sounds like our spare room/play room - full of stuff that no-one knows where to put...
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear your mother in law was flooded, that must be awful for her. But I do like your sentiments for next year very much. Happy New Year to you. xx
I think film directing and editing software is probably a very good set of skills to have in this day and age! Go E! Here's to 2016, health, happiness and cake. Not necessarily in that order. Be very careful tomorrow! X
ReplyDeletePlump for that cave! Our whole house sounds like your study at the moment - it's definitely time for a spring clean. Hope your mother in law is coping OK. Wishing you all a Happy New Year. xx
ReplyDeleteyes, if I'm honest our whole house needs sorting.......
Deletehappy new year wishes to you too xxx
Here's to a happy, healthy and productive 2016. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHead to the cave, friction and all that other stuff.... far too trying for a Christmas befuddled brain.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a safe trip to Cumbria and that you have a healthy and happy 2016. I look forward to sharing it with you x
Ha ha, Tess – good luck with the persuading to revise (how annoying just after Christmas) and have a splendid new year. I love the photo of your cat. Sam x PS Hope your m-in-law is ok. Dreadful flooding.
ReplyDeletethanks Sam xxx the cat was very hard to photograph, he got so excited by the cat nip! the flooding is awful, it is very sad xxx
DeleteHappy New Year to You & Yours!
ReplyDeletePrayers your family is safe from the floods
As for learning new software, it does help keep the brain's wheel running. But, good grades via studying well does open more doors career wise.
Glad I found you blog
happy new year Tess!
ReplyDeleteif you find a nice cave let me know...
I'd have plumped for the cave. In fact I'm seriously contemplating building one and not coming out for some time.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Tess, here's hoping you and yours have a great 2016 x
oh the cave, the cave every time. So sorry it has been so severe for your mother in law (and so many others I don't doubt). Thank you for a lovely year of blogging, and all the very best for the year ahead. Perhaps a disaster movie about antibiotic resistance and needing friction to escape to a new, resistance free planet could be the way forward?! xx
ReplyDeleteI hope you are keeping warm, and that Mum in law is doing okay. My kids won't let me take pictures of them either :(
ReplyDeleteHappy new year Tess. I'm so glad I found your blog with all your lovely quilting inspiration, not to mention your gorgeous and photogenic cat.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you found me too Sarah xxx Happy New Year to you too x
DeleteHappy New Year to you as well!! May it bring love, peace and good health!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you. I was contemplating a dry January too, as in your later post, but somehow I seem to have missed the boat. I am very persuaded by February having fewer days!
ReplyDeleteyes let's start a new trend for Dry February. Perhaps the weather could join in too...... x
DeleteI hope it was a cave of duvets and quilts, the alternative sounded thankless and most likely futile. Happy New Year to you too, hope Cumbria is drying out nicely and that you're feeling ready for 2016 by now. Who needs a plan anyway, I've begun to think every day being a new day, and a chance to make a fresh start (and maybe manage not to eat chocolate!) is much more sensible than to hang around waiting for the year to change before coming up with plans and resolutions.
ReplyDeleteyes the cave won! I like your ever day is a chance for a fresh start approach x very wise x
