random things of the week

When the skies are grey and the rain is pouring down sometimes you have to create your own light.

Create cosiness benefits all the family, even though I did tell the cat that this table runner really is Not a nice table quilt for him to sleep on. He is in disgrace now as he's licked a sore patch on his leg and his wearing the cone of shame, so he can't jump onto the table.
I suppose it would be cruel to keep it on permanently to stop him getting on the table.....

The storms here this weekend cancelled the Christmas market stalls and brought down the town Christmas tree. Nothing compared to the flooding in Cumbria, I've been watching in horror at the amount of water and the damage it's causing. J's mum had to leave her house on Saturday as the water started to come in, we have no idea how high it got, she's hoping to go back in today and look. We can't drive there to find out for ourselves as the roads are closed and the main bridge through her town is currently closed while it assessed for damage. The rumours on twitter last night that it had collapsed are thankfully untrue.

On a lighter note I found myself this weekend saying the one thing to my son that I thought I never would.

"make sure you take off all your make up before you go to bed"!

  1. Hahaha -- you're too funny. I hope your son got all his make-up off LOL.

Wow -- those storms must have been pretty bad -- I've seen little snippets here and there on blog posts. Glad you and your family are safe and I hope your MILs damage was minimal.

And, what a concept -- putting a cone on kitty to keep him from jumping on counters. Thinking .... Thinking ... LOL.

  2. Sorry to hear about the flooding, I do hope your mother-in-law's house isn't badly affected. It's so very sad to see it all happening once again.

Maybe your cat is after his own little cat-sized quilt. Hoping his paw is better soon. And that your son did get all his make-up off and used a good moisturiser afterwards. Wishing you and yours a good week. CJ xx

  5. Oh dear, hope your M-I-L's house hasn't suffered too badly, the pictures have looked so terrible, I heard someone on the radio earlier describe it as 'biblical', and it certainly looks that way. And Christmas markets being cancelled is very sad, but I don't suppose you can feel too hard done by given how it might have hit the North East as well as the West. Your son's production looks incredibly professional, and love the expression 'cone of shame'!

And so sorry that your M I L was caught up in the flooding, I hope her house is not damaged by floodwater...so heartbreaking.

  9. The last picture looks like a cool teenage zombie show! I do hope the damage to your mother in law's house is not too extensive. Judging by the news it doesn't look good for many, such a shame just before Christmas.

  10. I'm sorry your mother in law's house was caught up in the latest flooding. I hope the damage isn't too dreadful. It must be so upsetting, especially at this time of year. I can't believe that Pooley Bridge has been washed away - awful. Your son's stage set looks awesome. It's good to see your sense of humour is still intact :-)

  13. The flooding is horrendous, the amount of water was unbelievable even to us that live here. It's raining again now.........

The bridges are going to take some time to be checked there are 500 or so across the county. It is making getting everywhere rather tortuous especially when you add in that some road are still flooded. The bridge at Pooley Bridge going is unbelievable it has made getting to our friends rather a long journey!

I do hope your in laws are able to get back into their house soon and start clearing up.

  18. Oh strewth, I am so behind with reading blogs. I did not realise your Mum-in-law was in Cumbria. I hope things are improving for you all.

    I'm afraid I cried when I learnt about Pooley Bridge . . .

There are now just two bridges left open round here, that is all which connects west Cumbria to the rest of the county unless you drive north for quite a way before coming back down again. It's a bluddy nuisance but we will not complain, so many people have far worse to deal with.
