random things summer holidays week one.

The cats went for their vaccinations. Now one of them has to go back for a dental treatment. Is it not enough that I just took the children to the dentist, I have to take the cat as well.

I took the teenage children to see the latest Disney movie (Maleficent). There were probably more teen appropriate films on but who wants to grow up.......

E spent a whole day bouncing a small yellow foam ball off various walls around the house, so that they bounced into a red bin. Whilst filming. Then he spent hours learning how to blend the videos together to make a you tube video. It is totally mad. He is now working on video number two. I had to discourage bouncing the wall off the roof of the when it kept getting stuck up there..........

I started a new crochet project. So far I have made one crocheted pebble sea urchin, and one crocheted pebble fish/mermaid. I plan to take/make some on holiday and leave them around the harbour and sit with a mug of tea and see what happens.

We have started the hunt for school uniform already. Because from past experience I know it will take 6 weeks to find trousers that fit. So far total fail.

I did buy Miss K a summer dress. Which means she has got dressed twice so far in the last 7 days (summer is all about lounging in pj's reading books in the shade apparently), once to go to school uniform shop and cinema, and once when friends came for a bbq.

I love bbq's.  friends, warm summer evenings, chicken marinaded in curry spices and yoghurt, beef marinaded in Japanese soy sauce(Japanese soy is gluten free, Chinese soy is not), ginger, lemon and honey, served with green salads, crispy bread, sun warmed tomatoes, followed by grilled peaches, vanilla ice cream, and frozen blackberry yoghurt.
I am regretting not buying enough ingredients so that we can have the same again tonight......

  1. I had a cat once who had to have extensive dental treatment - then his teeth fell out (old age, they said). I am so jealous of lounging about in pj's and reading books in the shade. That's the stuff I never seem to get around to doing.
Thanks for the info on soy sauce - will be buying the Japanese version in future xxx

  2. I went with my 12 year old to see How To Train Your Dragon 2. We were both enthralled (and I sobbed loudly at one bit!) and don't even get me Started on the forthcoming Paddington movie! I can't wait! Never too old for a good kids film! X

  5. I know exactly what you mean about uniform trousers, it's such a trial finding ones that fit. Five days in pjs in the shade reading sounds like utter bliss, I'm glad she's enjoying the holidays. The bbq food must have been delicious, next time you'll know to buy double the amount! I hope you have a good weekend. CJ xx

  6. Ahem, five days in pajamas sounds like our house all the time. My children would never get dressed if we didn't go out. The start of your holiday sounds good, hope you find some trousers in time :)

  8. Jake wants to know what's wrong with going out in your pj's? He did just that the other night when we ate fish and chips sitting on the grass outside Lincoln Cathedral!

  11. Fun hearing about your summer days, Tess. LOVE your seaside-themed crochet and can't wait to see. :o) We take our cat annually for teeth cleaning procedure--have been ever since he lost a tooth a few years back. It's crazy expensive, but worth it. Hope you find those trousers, and without too much painful shopping around. Don't you wish we could be like the kids, just lounging in JP's (or if babies--nappies or undies) all day??!! We need more pajama days. ;o) Your summery food sounds delicious... YUM! Happy Days ((HUGS))

  13. I have already done the uniform. But I have yet to do the school shoes. It brings me out in a rash if I'm honest. Your barbecue sounds very civilised. Ours are usually on a beach, I always drop something into the sand. Last week it was the rolls. And I'm all for pj lounging. I do a lot of that myself in the summer hols.

  14. Sounds like you're having a perfect start to your summer holidays. If someone decides to walk off with your crochet project, will you be able to sit back and let them? You'll probably have to be prepared for a lot of different reactions. Isn't summer food the best? Yours sounds wonderful!

  15. I can totally relate to days spent in PJ's. First question of the day at Number 38 is "are we going out" so they know whether to bother getting dressed or not. We're on holiday and they're still asking! xx
